5 Water-Saving Tips For Your Bathroom

GET IN TOUCH

When you make an effort to conserve water, it’s good not only for your wallet, but for the environment. Therefore, it is important that we all do our part to reduce our water use. Fortunately, there are simple steps you can take to conserve more water in your home. The rooms that are most relevant to your efforts are your bathroom and kitchen. In this blog, we will focus on water-saving tips for the bathroom.

Don’t let the faucet drip

A leaky faucet may not seem like a big deal; after all, how much water could you be wasting when there is only a couple of drops of water coming out at a time? A lot, actually! The average leaky faucet wastes 20 gallons of water a day, so address leaks promptly.

Install low-flow water fixtures

If you are only familiar with the first generation of low-flow shower heads, you may be under the impression that while these may save water, they aren’t worth the low water pressure. Newer models have worked through the kinks of the first round and provide a much better shower experience as a result. There are low-flow faucets and toilets that can drastically reduce the amount of water you are wasting as well.

Take short showers instead of baths

Baths use roughly 30 gallons of water, while a ten minute shower uses 25; with a low-flow shower head, it’s more like 20 gallons. Conserve water by taking showers that are ten minutes or less.

Don’t run the faucet unnecessarily

When you are brushing teeth, don’t just let the water run. When you are shaving, consider using a bowl of water instead of the sink, or plug the sink.

Test for toilet leaks

Your toilet tank could be leaking, wasting water, and you could have no idea. Fortunately, you can test for very simply test for leaks. Put a couple of drops of food coloring into your toilet tank, and wait an hour or so. If the color shows up in your toilet bowl, you have a leak. Keep an eye out for our blog on how to stop your toilet from running.
